Ciao Bella

Tuesday, January 25, 2011

For the past few days I have been running around, scrambling to get everything together in time for my trip! As appointments, errands, and packing galore have taken over my life, I still allow myself time to sit back, if just for a few moments, and take in everything I'm feeling. The excitement about not knowing where my journey will lead me is bursting inside me every second of the day! I have sudden urges to tell anyone I run in to about my upcoming adventure...even the lady doing my nails who has no idea what I'm talking about thanks to the language barrier. But I don't care. I am just so anxious to be in Italia! Whenever I allow myself to start feeling this excited I try to reel myself back in. It's like trying to reel in a great white shark using a dinky fishing pole. Useless. I'm not sure if the thrill of it all will decrease as I sit on the endless flight, wait in the long customs line in the airport, take the hour drive to Orvieto, or spend my first night in the apartment, but hey, I'm not complaining. I figure, the longer I feel this ecstatic about being in Italy, the more enthusiastic I will be about all the different places, cultures, and histories...even after my 100th museum visit. Who knows how I will be feeling as I write my next "postcard". Will I love Orvieto just as much as I think I will? Will it be as breathtaking as the pictures make it seem? Will I have gotten lost yet? Who knows. This trip may have been taken before, but everyone has different experiences. I can't wait to make it my own from the instant I arrive. Until then, ciao bella!

Salve Megan!
